Clean Energy Centre of Excellence

The Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence (the Centre) will be located in Burnie and is a joint initiative between the Australian Government and the Tasmanian Government.

The Centre will support growth in the clean energy sector by attracting and training more Tasmanians for a career in clean energy and related trades.

It will play a crucial role in ensuring Australia meets its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

The Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence will:

  • Deliver innovative and practical training to equip Tasmanians with the skills required for employment in the clean energy sector
  • Partner with industry to ensure that training programs are aligned with current and future needs
  • Invest in contemporary equipment for training in the design, construction, and maintenance of renewable energy infrastructure
  • Include a targeted redevelopment of on-campus student accommodation.

Advisory Committee

The delivery of the Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence is overseen by an Advisory Committee that includes members from industry, the clean energy sector, and the north west community.

What will the Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence deliver?

The Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence will deliver training for skills that will play a crucial role in ensuring Australia meets its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

For Tasmania, the Centre will support growth in the clean energy sector by attracting and training more Tasmanians for a career in clean energy and related trades.

The Centre will be at the forefront of skills development including in the following areas:

  • electrotechnology and instrumentation trade training
  • training students in skills to enter the clean energy workforce including through related trades.

How has the Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence been funded?

The Tasmanian Clean Energy Centre of Excellence has been established under the National Skills Agreement and is part of the nationally networked TAFE Centres of Excellence.

The Australian Government will invest $13.2 million through the National Skills Agreement, with funding matched by the Tasmanian Government. An additional $800,000 will be allocated through the Australian Government’s Turbocharging TAFE Centres of Excellence initiative.
