Do I have to use SmartyGrants to apply?

Yes, only applications submitted via the SmartyGrants platform will be accepted.

Can I review the application form before starting my application?

Yes, when you log on to SmartyGrants and view the application, you can also choose to download the application form as a PDF to review whenever you like. You can also preview the form online. Please note that PDF copies of application forms do not show which questions are mandatory, so you may see questions that do not apply to your organisation.

Who can apply?

Eligible applicants must be:

  • a Tasmanian-based Aboriginal community-controlled organisation (ACCO), as defined in the National Agreement on Closing the Gap 2020 (Clause 44)
  • be able to provide a financial statement for the 2024-25 financial year
  • have evidence of $20 million public liability insurance for each individual claim or series of claims arising out of a single occurrence

have appropriate provisions in place regarding the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework.

Can an ACCO partner with another organisation?

Yes. Projects may involve partnerships with registered training organisations (RTOs) or other relevant organisations, as long as the ACCO is the lead applicant.

What can the funding be used for?

Funding can be used for projects led by ACCOs that build training capability, including work to strengthen partnerships with registered training organisations (RTOs), workforce development projects, organisational planning, evaluation or updating training materials, and services supporting Aboriginal people to engage in VET.

Can funding be used for existing programs or activities?

Funding must support new or expanded activities. Retrospective funding is not available.

What is the application process?

Applicants submit an application form with a project proposal, project plan, and budget. Eligible applications are assessed against the criteria in the project guidelines. All applicants will be notified of the outcome by email.

How much money is available?

A total of $500,000 is available for the program, with individual grants available for between $2,000 to $200,000.

How many applications will be funded?

The program is a competitive open grant. There is not a set number of funded applications. Funding is competitively allocated up to the available budget for eligible applications.

When will applicants be notified?

All applicants will be advised of the outcome by email after the assessment process is finalised. This is expected to take place in July 2026. Any major delays to the assessment or notification process will be communicated to all applicants via email.
