The Tasmanian Training Awards are conducted annually by Skills Tasmania, Department of State Growth. The Department is committed to the development of a high quality, efficient system of vocational education and training and workforce development. The commitment represents a major contribution to the development of competitive advantage for Tasmanian industry.
The Awards recognise the achievements of apprentices, trainees and vocational students who strive for the highest standards of knowledge and skills within their industry. They also recognise industry, employers, small businesses and training organisations dedicated to providing high quality training and improving the skills of the workforce in this State. The Awards offer finalists the chance to gain personal satisfaction and the prestige of being part of an elite group who unequivocally represent the State’s best in vocational education and training.
Winners from the Tasmanian Training Awards (in aligned categories*) have the opportunity to compete with other states and territories to be named the best in Australia at the Australian Training Awards which will be held this year the in Canberra, in November.
2017 Tasmanian Training Awards
The Tasmanian Training Awards are an annual celebration of excellence that showcase the many examples of individuals and organisations making a positive contribution to not just their own, but to Tasmania’s future.
On Friday, 1 September over 500 people attended the dinner, including Minister for State Growth, Matthew Groom, prominent business and government leaders, VET practitioners, our finalists, their families and friends.
In his welcome message Minister Groom acknowledged that each year the Tasmanian Training Awards give us a moment to reflect on the hard work and dedication that is required to excel in the many roles associated with vocational education and training. He thanked the generous sponsors, industry partners, training providers, employers and students for their ongoing appreciation and support for the awards.
Our 2017 winners in aligned categories have the opportunity to represent Tasmania at the Australian Training Awards, to be presented in Canberra on Thursday, 23 November.

23 November – registrations now open
In November, the vocational education and training sector’s best apprentices, trainees, VET teachers and students, secondary schools, registered training organisations and employers will gather in the nation’s capital for the annual Australian Training Awards.

The Awards are the culmination of state and territory training awards, with training award winners from each state and territory eligible to compete in aligned categories at the national level. Seven award categories are available by entering the Australian Training Awards directly.
2017 Australian Training Awards Direct Entry Awards
There are several Direct Entry Awards for the Australian Training Awards which don’t go through state and territory processes. One of these is the School Pathways to VET Award which recognises organisations, including schools, registered training organisations, group training organisations, industry bodies and employers that have collaboratively delivered one, or more, excellent VET programs to secondary school students.
Skills Tasmania is delighted that Southern Tasmanian Catholic Colleges Trade Training Centre has been selected as a finalist in the School Pathways to VET Award category and will travel to Canberra in November for judging. Presentation of awards is at the Canberra Convention Centre on Thursday, 23 November.
