VET in schools focuses on the transition from school to productive life. VET in schools offers industry-specific entry-level training programs which deliver competencies endorsed within the National Training Framework. The strength with the VET in Schools program is the industry collaboration and recognition of the vocational pathways offered.
Students in years 11 or 12 may undertake a vocational education and training (VET) program as part of their studies. This may be at a college, district high school or a Skill Centre. They are able to complete Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE) subjects as well as VET qualifications.
VET in schools offers students practical learning, introduces them to the world of work and expands their post-school options. Young people taking VET in Schools programs are well placed to go on to further study at TAFE or university or find a job.
The variety and relevance of VET in Schools programs gives students the chance to learn about different areas of work and gain nationally recognised skills and qualifications that can lead directly to jobs.
Employers have a high regard for the technical and business skills and workplace knowledge students develop in these programs. They particularly value the skills they gain such as communication, teamwork and problem solving.
The range of VET options will vary from school to school. For further information contact your school/college VET coordinator or contact:
