Industry Partnerships Program – funding for training-related resources and equipment

A new Skills Tasmania grant program will target critical equipment and resources gaps in the Tasmanian vocational education and training system.

The Industry Partnerships Program will provide grants to Skills Tasmania endorsed registered training organisations, and Tasmanian employers, business and industry to improve access to nationally recognised training-related equipment and resources.

Grant funding of up to $50,000 for small grants and $250,000 for large grants are available to eligible organisations.

Applications are now open and will close 1 May 2024 or when funds are fully allocated.

2023-24 Grant Program Release Schedule now available

Skills Tasmania has published the 2023-24 Grant Program Release Schedule to provide potential applicants with time to prepare for upcoming funding rounds.

The schedule outlines the grant programs Skills Tasmania will implement on behalf of the Government with recurrent funding in the 2023-24 financial year and proposed release dates.

The grant programs reflect the current workforce development and training priorities of the Tasmanian Government and support the Government's vision for a high-quality training and workforce development system.

Training contract communications

From 1 August 2023, Skills Tasmania will transition from sending hard copy letters to training contract holders (ie. apprentices and trainees) and employers to sending emails.

We will use the email addresses we currently have on file and will call anyone we receive bounce-backs or undeliverable notifications from to confirm a preferred new address.

Tasmanian Training Awards – finalists announced

Thanks to all those who nominated for the Tasmanian Training Awards. The interview panels for all the categories are now complete and finalists have been announced – 2023 Tasmanian Training Award finalists

The presentation dinner will be held on Friday, 8 September 2023 at Wrest Point Conference Centre.

Jobs Tasmania’s new website

Jobs Tasmania's new website is now live and gives jobseekers and businesses an easy way to connect with the Regional Jobs Hub Network.

With in-built location functionality, users will be able to identify where they live or operate a business and they will be directed to their closest Jobs Hub and other relevant services and programs.

Employer of Choice Assist

Jobs Tasmanian’s re-invigorated Employer of Choice program is in full swing with a focus on providing tailored support for businesses to plan, attract and retain a workforce.

A new free service for small businesses called Employer of Choice Assist is now available to help businesses reach with workplace goals.

Delivered by the TCCI this tailored service will assist businesses with:

• Attraction and retention.
• Developing workplace policies and procedures.
• Building a positive workplace culture.
• Being recognised as an Employer of Choice.

Integration of My Skills into Your Career

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations has advised that the consumer features of the My Skills website have now been incorporated into Your Career. Driven by the National Careers Institute, the Your Career site will provide a one-stop-shop for careers information and to help people of all ages and circumstances better plan and manage their career.

26TEN Workplace Grants now open

26TEN Workplace grants support employers and peak bodies to run projects to improve literacy and numeracy of Tasmanian workers, both paid and volunteer. Projects can include improving all aspects of workplace communication by, for example:

• improving the reading, writing and maths skills of employees so they can do their jobs better
• training employees to write work documents in plain English
• training supervisors and managers to support employees with low literacy.

Tasmanian employers, Tasmanian industry associations and peak bodies, and registered training organisations (in partnership with employers, industry associations or peak bodies) can apply.

National Skills Week – 21-27 August 2023

Held annually, National Skills Week raises awareness of the diverse career pathways possible through vocational education and training (VET) as well as highlighting the jobs and skills most in demand for the future.

How can you get involved? National Skills Week invites industries, schools and training providers to organise and share events that will encourage participation in VET related activities. Register your event on the National Skills Week website so others can attend or know what you are doing, and don’t forget to hashtag #nationalskillsweek so that we can celebrate alongside you.

Adult Learners Week – 1-8 September 2023

This year’s Adult Learners Week theme is ‘It’s never too late to learn’.

You can register an event, find an event to take part in, nominate an outstanding adult learner for a scholarship or read stories of adults who have changed their lives through learning.
