9 Sept 2023 - Tasmanian Training Awards celebration

The awards celebrate excellence in vocational education and training in Tasmania and recognises the individuals, employers, trainers, and training providers who have achieved incredible successes in the past year. The night was enjoyed by finalists awarded across 14 categories including individual, business, training providers and industry collaboration categories. Winners are as follows:

The prestigious TasTAFE sponsored 2023 Apprentice of the Year was awarded to Jack Chilcott from Youngtown who completed a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician with TasTAFE.

The 2023 Trainee of the Year, sponsored by Federal Group Tasmania, went to Catherine Jones from Launceston who completed a Certificate III in Hospitality with TasTAFE.

Bradley Maynard from Legana, was the recipient of the 2023 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year award, completing a Certificate IV in Work, Health and Safety with TasTAFE.

The Keystone 2023 School-based Apprentice of the Year was awarded to Indiana Corbin from Otago Bay who is completing a Certificate III in Patisserie with TasTAFE.

Naomi Cox from Zeehan completed her Certificate IV in Leadership and Management with Learning Partners to be recognised as the Rotary Club of Deloraine 2023 Vocational Student of the Year.

The TasTAFE 2023 VET in Schools Student of the Year award was this year awarded to Bonnie Clark from Lenah Valley for completing a Certificate III in Individual Support at Guilford Young College.

The Keystone 2023 VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year award went to Kirsten Bacon from Elizabeth College for her VET work in hospitality.

The Equity Awards reward students who have overcome barriers and/or disadvantage to achieve their VET qualifications. This year the MEGT sponsored 2023 Equity Apprentice/Trainee of the Year award was presented to Maryam Azizi from Lenah Valley.

The Work & Training sponsored 2023 Equity Vocational Student of the Year award was presented to Drew Wellard from South Hobart at Elizabeth College.

The annual training awards program is run by Skills Tasmania, as part of nationwide training awards programs. Tasmanian award winners in aligned categories are nominated to represent Tasmania at the Australian Training Awards, to be held in Hobart in November this year.

The annual Tasmanian Training Awards also recognise the organisations that contribute to the success of individual learners - employers, and training providers.

The Industry Collaboration of the Year Award recognises exemplary collaboration between employers/industry and a provider of nationally recognised training. Sponsored by Swinburne University of Technology the 2023 winner is St Joseph Affordable Homes.

The Small Employer of the Year Award is presented to a business with 99 or fewer full time equivalent employees that has demonstrated excellence in staff training. Sponsored by TCCI, the 2023 Small Employer of the Year is the Bridgewater Police and Community Youth Club.

Businesses with 100 or more full time equivalent employees compete for the honour of the TCCI sponsored Large Employer of the Year award, with the winner this year announced as Stornoway Maintenance.

The ReadyTech 2023 Large Training Provider of the Year award was won by Learning Partners for its delivery of its customised and personalised learning experiences.

The ReadyTech 2023 Small Training Provider of the Year award was won by Scala The Training Company for its innovative training programs in business, retail and leadership.

Winners in aligned categories can represent Tasmania at the Australian Training Awards in Hobart in November this year.
