2023 Australian Training Awards come to Tasmania

The 2023 Australian Training Awards (ATA) take place this year in Hobart in November and you don’t have to be a Tasmanian Training Award category winner to qualify for the big night. The ATA is encouraging individuals and businesses to apply for the national direct entry categories.

There are five direct entry categories for the national awards.
· Outstanding Achievement in the VET and Skills Sector
· Excellence in Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice
· Australian Apprenticeships Employer
· Innovation in VET
· School Pathways to VET

Applications for the five direct entry categories close on Wednesday, 31 May.

Celebrating the success of VET

Over the past few years Skills Tasmania has been lucky enough to get to know many of the finalists and winners of the Tasmanian Training Awards and explore some of their stories through the Discover VET promotion.

One of the people we met on the journey is builder Richard Wilkinson who was the 2014 Tasmanian Apprentice of the Year.

Richard chose to change professions from architecture to building and as a mature age apprentice commenced his journey in Carpentry before gaining a Certificate IV in Building and Construction with trainer Learning Partners.

Richard now owns Drury Wilkinson Builders with his business partner and employs his own apprentices.

Enjoy his story.
