Delicious food an inspiration for Harry

Harry is passionate about providing people with new and exciting experiences that encourage them to expand their personal preferences when it comes to food.

In 2019, Harry Cuthbertson became Tasmania’s Australian Apprentice of the Year and his story proves that no matter your circumstances, anything is possible if you have passion.

Harry was an adult apprentice at The Chapel in Burnie and completed his Certificate III in Commercial Cookery in August 2019, at TasTAFE’s Drysdale Campus in Devonport. Over his time as an apprentice, Harry worked at the Ginger Brown Café in Hobart and also at Palate Food + Drink in Burnie.

Harry is a proud husband and father of four children, and a senior pastor of the New Life Church in Wynyard. Harry was initially attracted to the hospitality industry because it provided him with an opportunity to connect with people, seeing food and hospitality as a great opportunity to bring people together.

Harry is passionate about providing people with new and exciting experiences that encourage them to expand their personal preferences when it comes to food. Harry is passionate about VET and is a great supporter of the training he received at TasTAFE.

“I believe food and hospitality has the amazing power to bring people together and foster community. I love the kitchen because it has the possibility to capture people’s hearts and provide them with all new opportunities in life. I love cooking because it’s a science to learn, a craft to hone, and an art to endlessly create with.

“I am particularly passionate about vocational education and training and how I have been trained at TAFE. For anyone considering a course at Drysdale, I would say ‘don’t hesitate’, the study at Drysdale has given me the knowledge and skills to compliment my on-the-job training and given me a more holistic understanding of my passion.”
