From wanting a change to making it happen
A few years ago architect Richard Wilkinson realised he wanted a change. Richard trained as an architect but realised he had a burning passion to be on the tools. At age 32 he decided instead to follow his passion - building.
He started a Certificate Ill in Carpentry as a mature-age apprentice, studying with TasTAFE, and then completed a Certificate IV in Building and Construction working for company Top Deck Building.
Richard hasn't looked back. This year Richard opened his own company - Wilkinson Drury Building and now has apprentices of his own.

About building and construction
The building and construction industry includes roles in civil construction and in allied trades such us electrotechnology, plumbing and any of the industries that are key to the creation of construction or infrastructure. It’s a great industry with lots of diversity.
