The Apprentice and Trainee Grant for Small Business program is aimed at increasing the number of apprentices and trainees employed in small businesses in Tasmania.

The Program provides employers who are not entitled to claim the Payroll Tax Rebate Scheme, a subsidy of up to $5,000 for each apprentice or trainee they employ as a new worker from 1 January 2021.

****Update 27 April 2022

The Apprentice and Trainee Grant for Small Business program has now been fully allocated and will close on 30 April 2022.

Following the success of this program and additional funding of almost $11 million provided through the 2021-22 State Budget the funds have now been fully committed.

However, employers who have been approved for a grant prior to 30 April 2022 will continue to receive grant payments as they fall due at both the 6 and 12 month point if their apprentices and trainees are still employed.

Also, any training contracts that have a commencement date prior to 1 May 2022 will be considered for a grant if they meet the eligibility criteria.

The program which has been in place since 1 January 2021 replaced the previous Targeted Apprentice and Trainee Grant for Small Business which closed on 30 December 2020.
