Frequently Asked Questions - Individuals - The Selection Process

1How are individual award finalists shortlisted?

Shortlisting is undertaken by Skills Tasmania. Applications are judged based on the written responses to the selection criteria.

2How are individual award winners chosen?

Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by a panel of judges who decide the finalists and the winner. Please note applicants for the Equity Vocational Student award and Equity Apprentice/Trainee award do not undergo interviews.

3How will I know if I have been shortlisted?

Emailed advice will be sent to advise whether you have been shortlisted or not.

4What do I need to do to be shortlisted?

First you need to ensure you are eligible for the award you are applying for and meet the conditions of entry for that category. You must complete the nomination form and obtain all relevant signatures. You must write an overview and address all the selection criteria. A generous word limit applies so make the most of the opportunity to tell your story and answer the selection criteria thoroughly. Skills Tasmania reserves the right to reject an application, or withdraw your application from the shortlisting process, in the case of any non-compliance.

5How will I prepare if I have been selected for an interview?

If shortlisted you will be sent information about the interview, including how to prepare. Please note applicants for the Equity Vocational Student award and Equity Apprentice/Trainee award do not undergo interviews.

6Who sits on the judging panels?

Judging panels are usually made up of three or four members and are chaired by a Skills Tasmania representative. The previous year’s winner of the award is invited to be a panel member, as is a representative from the category sponsor. All panel members sign two forms: a conflict of interest form and a confidentiality form.
