10What does ‘equity’ mean?

Skills Tasmania identifies a number of crosscutting themes of disadvantage in Tasmania that generate significant barriers to effective participation in vocational education and training (VET).  Common themes include, but are not limited to: low levels of education and skill development; low literacy and numeracy skills; a history of family violence; disability; mental ill  health; age, especially being older; gender and caring responsibilities; low income and poverty; cross-generational under/unemployment; isolation due to rural or remote location with inadequate transport and services; lack of English language fluency and minority culture background; a history of offending and imprisonment.

11What happens after my nomination is received?

When your application is received you will enter a shortlisting process to determine who will be invited to attend an interview.

12What is the closing date for nominations?

Nominations will close at 11:59pm Monday, 29 May 2023.

13How do I complete my nomination form?

The nomination form on Award Force is straightforward. You won’t be able to start your application without filling in all the required information on the form - these include your personal details, the person nominating you, your qualification, your employer, your training provider, etc. After you complete the nomination form, you can begin writing your application.

14What should be considered when writing any application?

The selection criteria for each award will guide you to write your application, especially the considerations outlined below each criterion. The awards are about excellence in vocational education and training and the shortlisting panel will be judging how well you address the criteria in relation to your training experience. So before you begin, think about what makes your training experience unique, what you have gained from it, and how it has made a difference to you, your role or your workplace.

15Will my photo be in the paper if I win?

Yes. In signing the nomination form you give permission for Skills Tasmania to use non-confidential details from the nomination and relevant photographs and/or film for any publicity purpose pertaining to vocational education and training including, but not limited to, the Tasmanian Training Awards and the Australian Training Awards (if applicable).

16Will I go to the Australian Training Awards if I win in my category?

Winners, in aligned categories, are automatically nominated for the Australian Training Awards and will compete at the national level.

Note: There are no national equivalents to the VET in Schools Student Award or the Equity Apprentice/Trainee and Equity Vocational Student awards.
