Frequently Asked Questions - Business and training provider awards- The Selection Process

1What happens after my nomination is received?

In the first instance applications are assessed against the selection criteria to determine shortlisted applicants. Shortlisted Applicants may be required to attend an interview. The interview will determine the finalists and winner.

2What do we need to do to be shortlisted?

First you need to ensure you are eligible for the award you are applying for and meet the conditions of entry for that category. You must complete, and sign, the nomination form. You must write an overview and address all the selection criteria. Make the most of the allowable word limit as you will not have the opportunity to rewrite your application if you win your award and are nominated for the Australian Training Awards. Skills Tasmania reserves the right to reject an application, or rescind the application from the shortlisting process, in the case of any non-compliance.

4How can we prepare if we’ve been selected for an interview?

If shortlisted you will be sent information about the interview, including how to prepare.

5What happens at the interview?

If selected you will be sent information about the interview process.

6Who sits on the judging panels?

Judging panels are usually made up of three or four members and are chaired by a Skills Tasmania representative. Panel members are drawn from industry and government departments. A representative from the category sponsor may be invited. All panel members sign two forms: a conflict of interest form and a confidentiality form. Where there is a conflict of interest the invitation to sit on the judging panel will be withdrawn.

7How do we apply for one of the Direct Entry Australian Training Award categories?

You apply for a Direct Entry Australian Training Awards category online. The categories are widely advertised on the Tasmanian Training Awards web site and in our Skills Facts newsletter, or you can visit https://www.australiantrainingawards.gov.au/how-to-apply.
