Frequently Asked Questions - Business - The Selection Process

1How are the business winners chosen?

In the first instance applications are assessed against the selection criteria to determine shortlisted applicants. Shortlisted Applicants may be required to attend an interview, in person or by teleconference or video conference.

2What happens after my nomination is received?

All applicants in all categories undergo a shortlisting process. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed.

4How can we prepare if we’ve been selected for an interview?

If shortlisted you will be sent information about the interview, including how to prepare.

5What do we need to do to be shortlisted?

First you need to ensure you are eligible for the award you are applying for and meet the conditions of entry for that category. You must complete, and sign, the nomination form. You must write an overview and address all the selection criteria. Make the most of the allowable word limit as you will not have the opportunity to rewrite your application if you win your award and are nominated for the Australian Training Awards. Skills Tasmania reserves the right to reject an application, or rescind the application from the shortlisting process, in the case of any non-compliance.

6What happens at the interview?

If selected you will be sent information about the interview process.

7Who sits on the judging panels?

Judging panels are usually made up of three or four members and are chaired by a Skills Tasmania representative. Panel members are drawn from industry and government departments. A representative from the category sponsor may be invited. All panel members sign two forms: a conflict of interest form and a confidentiality form. Where there is a conflict of interest the invitation to sit on the judging panel will be withdrawn.
