31 Oct 2022 - Advanced Manufacturing Action Plan progress

The Tasmanian Advanced Manufacturing Action Plan 2024 provides a framework of actions and initiatives to support the state’s advanced manufacturing sector to grow its capability and to become more successful and sustainable.

Advanced manufacturing is an important component of the Tasmania’s economy and a significant part of the State’s broader manufacturing sector.

The Tasmanian Advanced Manufacturing Action Plan 2024 (the Plan) was finalised and released in November 2020 and provides a framework of actions that the Tasmanian Government will undertake to provide support to the state’s advanced manufacturing sector to grow its capability and to become more successful and sustainable.

Recently, a Skills and Training Audit was undertaken by Stenning & Associates – with support from the Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Industries and Skills Tasmania teams - to support Action 4 of Priority 1 in the Plan, which is to: Develop a Workforce Development Plan, informed by an independent skills and training audit for the advanced manufacturing sector and its subsectors.

The industry-led Workforce Development Plan will focus on the current status of in-scope projects and activity over the short to medium term (1–5-year period) to support the recently established Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Advisory Group (AMWAG) and the Tasmanian Government’s forward plan for this initial period.

A recent Challenges and Opportunities Workshop facilitated by Stenning & Associates involved industry representatives from across the advanced manufacturing sectors including, seafood, agriculture, maritime, defence, manufacturing and food production. Participants in the workshop discussed workforce development issues and priority areas of action.

The Final Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Development Plan is due for completion in early December 2022.
