2008 Australian Training Awards

Join Australia’s training decision makers and achievers in Darwin this November for the 2008 Australian Training Awards.

The Australian Training Awards are the peak, national awards for vocational education and training, recognising innovation and excellence in the training sector.

The Australian Training Awards are hosted by the Australian Government and are the culmination of the state and territory awards with winners from each state and territory competing in the national awards.

Tasmania celebrated Awards success in 2007 winning two of the student award categories at the Australian Training Awards held in Hobart.

Evan Brett is the 2007 Australian Apprentice (Trainee) of the Year. Evan enrolled in a Certificate III in Community Services Work through TAFE Tasmania and is working at the Don College in Devonport. Evan is a teacher’s aide for young adults with special needs and with Evan’s traineeship completed he is now able to make a difference to the lives of young people with special needs every day. 

“I would encourage any person to keep their learning as a lifelong process and to follow their personal goals.  I did, and found fulfilment.”  Evan said

Warwick Johnstone is the 2007 Stella Axarlis School-based Apprentice of the Year.  In 2006, at age 17, Warwick enrolled in an Australian Technical College to complete his Year 12 Certificate as well as an Australian School-based Apprenticeship in Certificate III in Carpentry. With his on-the-job training at Meadson Constructions and his off-the-job training at the Australian Technical College – Northern Tasmania, Warwick has gained valuable experience and has already been offered opportunities to sustain a great future in the building and construction industry.

“I was always mindful of obtaining the best education possible to provide for my future career prospects.” Warwick said

This year the Australian Training awards will be presented in 11 categories at a gala dinner at the Darwin Convention Centre in Darwin, on Thursday, 20 November 2008.
