Current Skills Tasmania initiatives

Adult Literacy Programs
As part of the Adult Literacy Action Plan the 26TEN Grants Program, which closed on 30 April 2013, was developed by Skills Tasmania to boost adult literacy levels in Tasmania. The next Grants round will open late 2013 (date TBA). Also included is the Adult Literacy Support Officer Register, which supports the 26 TEN Program.

Employer of Choice
The Employer of Choice program aims to assist employers to attract and retain skilled workers to support the growth and sustainability of their business.

Good news stories
Skills Tasmania is always on the lookout for 'Good news stories' that illustrate a positive outcome within the VET system and which we can share with other providers and participants.

Rapid Response Skills Initiative
The Rapid Response Skills Initiative assists people who have lost their jobs because of retrenchment, closures or company downsizing to upskill and reskill to gain employment.

Skills Tasmania Conference
The Skills Tasmania Conference is held annually. Local, inter-state and international guest speakers deliver information on current trends in vocational education and training (VET). There are networking opportunities, including end of day one drinks and a conference dinner. Café Conversations, workshops and exhibitors booths provide additional up-to-date material for the VET sector.

The Skills Fund
The Skills Fund program, which provides subsidised training, supports employers in partnership with registered training organisations (RTOs) to upskill existing workers.

Tasmanian Skills Strategy
The Tasmanian Skills Strategy, through the four key themes (increasing opportunity, a better system for clients, workforce development and skills for the future) focuses on how opportunities to develop skills in Tasmania will be strengthened, and how threats to that aim will be managed.

VET workers Professional Development program
Organised directly through Skills Tasmania, the Vocational Education and Training (VET) workers Professional Development program includes workshops, which are aimed at VET practitioners to develop and enhance their professional skills and knowledge while providing a networking opportunity with other practitioners in the VET industry.

Industry advice mechanisms
Future mechanism for strategic industry advice to Government on vocational education and training (VET), skills and workforce development in 2013.
