Maintaining RTO status

To maintain its status as a registered training organisation (RTO), the RTO must:

  • maintain the standards set by the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and the Tasmanian Qualifications Authority (TQA)
  • allow its performance to be monitored and audited at any time during the period of registration to assess its compliance with these standards
  • renew its registration within the required timeframe prior to expiry.

Statistical reporting (AVETMISS collection and audit)

One of the requirements of an RTO accessing public funds is to provide statistical reports on training delivery. Further information is available in AVETMISS collection and audit

Issuing certificates

All qualifications issued must bear the Nationally Recognised Training logo - any relevant protocols must be observed. For protocols regarding the Nationally Recognised Training logo refer to the section on 'Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) Logo Specifications' on the following Tasmanian Qualifications Authority (TQA) page: www.tqa.tas.gov.au/2145

Skills Tasmania Identity

The guidelines governing use of State and Territory Training Authority logos are contained in the AQF Implementation Handbook 2007 (refer to the chapter on 'Issuing a qualification'). In Tasmania this logo is known as the 'Skills Tasmania Identity' (the Identity). Its use is only required when the qualification has been funded by Skills Tasmania.

In using the Skills Tasmania Identity suggested wording might include 'This program is funded by Skills Tasmania'. As the AQF Implementation Handbook 2007 states this wording can be used on all qualifications. Although it is a requirement that the Identity and supporting wording must be included on a full qualification, its use on a Statement of Attainment is optional.

The recommended font for any wording is Gill Sans (or Arial). The font size is discretionary, although it must be a minimum of 10 points.

A copy of the Skills Tasmania Identity can be obtained by contacting Brendan Boucher at brendan.boucher@skills.tas.gov.au.

RTO role of delivering apprenticeships/traineeships

The requirements of RTOs in relation to trainees and apprentices are specified in three sources: the contract of training, including the Training Program Outline; the AQTF Standards for Registered Training Organisations and the User Choice Service Standards. The guidelines on the role of RTOs, AACs and Skills Tasmania in the delivery of traineeships/apprenticeships [Word 90KB] provides an overview of the RTO role.

People with Special Needs

Access and equity in training ensures that people with differing needs and abilities have the same opportunities to successfully gain skills, knowledge and experience through education and training. The Access & Equity Guide for RTOs [PDF 126KB] provides information and resources to assist RTOs address their responsibilities in the delivery of vocational education and training (VET) to people from equity groups. Further information on access and equity is available via Equity Services, Skills Tasmania.
