In addition to the financial assistance and incentives provided by the Australian Government, employers of Trainees and Apprentices may be eligible to access Tasmanian Government funding. For an overview of both State and Commonwealth training incentives available to individuals and employers, which is collated and organised into an easy to access table, see 'Training subsidies available to individuals and employers'.
The Tasmanian Government provides funds to encourage training to:
- support developing industries or industries in which there are skill shortages
- increase training opportunities in remote locations
- offer disadvantaged groups pathways to training and employment.
Funding in Tasmania
The following incentives are available to employers of Trainees and Apprentices in Tasmania.
Accommodation and travel allowances for apprentices/trainees
Accommodation and travel allowances are available to apprentices and trainees who have an approved Tasmanian Training Contract in place, and are required to travel within Tasmania to attend structured training.
Allowances assist apprentices and trainees to attend training at their chosen training organisation. This assistance contributes to the cost of accommodation, meals and travel for apprentices and trainees travelling to another regional area of the state or in some cases, interstate. These allowances should not be confused with the Australian Government allowance paid to apprentices and trainees living away from home to work outside their regional area.
More details on allowances including amounts and recommended accommodation in Tasmania, are available on the 'Accommodation and Travelling Allowances' page.
